chronic illness

do you suffer from a chronic illness?

Do you suffer from a chronic illness? Have you been told by your GP there is nothing more he can do to help you and you need to 'learn to live with it'? Maybe you find that your environment thinks you should 'snap out of it' and 'get on with it'?

You are not alone: An ever increasing number of people suffer from a chronic illness, such as Tinnitus, Fibromyalgia, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME). Often sufferers resign to the fact that there is apparently nothing that can be done, while they experience a downward spiral of distress, physical illness, anxiety and the loss of quality of life they were used to.

The long-term effects of chronic illness are difficult to predict but often devastating for the sufferer and their family as the illness severely limits their ability to go to work, enjoy pastimes and holidays like they used to and impacts on their daily routines.

how can chronic illness management help you?

Over the past years orthodox medicine has slowly begun to accept the role psychological factors play in chronic illness. While this is a step forward there are however drawbacks: orthodox medical staff are often not trained to deal with these psychological components of chronic illness, or worse - assume the patient can just somehow 'snap out of it'. Families and friends sometimes think the sufferer is just 'having nerves' and that the physical symptoms are just 'in your mind'.

This is simply not the case - a Tinnitus sufferer does experience a constant noise, a Fibromyalgia sufferer does suffer real pain, not just imagined pain.

Chronic Illness Management is a multi-modal approach devised by Dr. Kevin Hogan from the Minnesota Institute of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. It recognises the need to incorporate both mind and body in the treatment process. Like spokes on a wheel, different treatments and strategies are tailored individually to the specific symptoms and needs of the client to create maximum effect as quickly as possible. Generally this includes medication where necessary (advised by your GP), hypnotherapy, life coaching, cognitive therapy and, if necessary, other specialist treatments.

Unlike many other therapies and medication this approach relies on your active participation and full commitment to beating the illness. It requires patience and determination to follow treatments and devised strategies on a daily basis, and progress can sometimes be slow and you might experience initial set backs. However, it has proven its success over and over again, helping thousands of people affected by chronic illness to re-gain the quality of life they deserve.

Chronic Illness Management will not replace your GP, but rather form a working partnership with him/her as well as any other health practitioners such as nutritionists or osteopaths where necessary.

It is not plain sailing and not as easy as buying into the latest 'wonder pill' - but it has proven over and over again to bring relief and/or cure chronic illness.

If you are prepared to make a real commitment to doing whatever is necessary to change your life for a happier future, we would like to hear from you.

Please be aware: The multi-modal approach does not replace traditional patient education and treatment provided by doctors. It is a complementary treatment and support system and helps reinforce traditional treatments. All clients are required to provide a certificate by their GP or specialist before treatment can commence! Hypnosis will neither be used nor demonstrated during the initial assessment. There is no charge for the initial assessment and no obligation or pressure to agree to any sort of therapy. All information is strictly confidential.
